Some interesting information was recently discovered that may unofficially confirm another unsurprising installment to the Resident Evil series. The last two notable console entries to the series - not including Resident Evil: Revelations - have arguably tarnished the brand and excitement isn’t as high as it should be for another sequel. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City was blasted critically and by fans, serving as an indicator that the Resident Evil franchise had become a cash cow, aiming to appeal to the action-focused “mainstream” gamer audience, but it failed in every way....

As the wave of next-gen promises begins to crash upon the gaming community, developers promising better graphics and faster processing are appearing at every turn. But these days it’s not enough to simply be a looker - you have to have a hook. The developers of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor have one sure to turn a few heads, and it isn’t the hit-or-miss Lord of the Rings fiction providing its backdrop....

Much like grandfathers beget fathers and fathers beget sons so does Mario Kart beget the combat racing titles of today. Such is SkyDrift, a downloadable combat racing game that uses vintage airplanes with which to wage carnage. Spread across seven different stages, including online multiplayer, SkyDrift lets the player select from a small handful of planes and take them for a spin on a number of tracks. If you’ve played Mario Kart, or more recently Blur, you know exactly the experience SkyDrift attempts to emulate — and when I say attempts, I mean attempts....

Director Matt Reeves’ The Batman is currently set to be followed by an untitled police procedural drama television series for HBO Max. Now, the Gotham PD-focused series has tapped The Ritual writer Joe Barton to serve as the new showrunner. The Batman spin-off began development in July 2020 with Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter on board as co-writer and showrunner. However, Winter stepped down from his role last year on account of his vision for the series no longer aligning with the plans of Reeves, who serves as co-writer and executive producer on the project, and other producers....

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim dominated the gaming community last fall when it released to critical praise and a plethora of awards -nothing new for the open-world RPG series. But long before Skyrim even released, rumors and speculation pointed towards the idea of it potentially being the first game in the series to include multiplayer, as an MMO no less. While that didn’t happen obviously, Bethesda’s Todd Howard, Pete Hines and other reps never dismissed the idea of taking The Elder Scrolls into the online realm, going so far as to say it’s something that interests them and that it’s something they could do....

Looking Glass Studios’ Thief: The Dark Project still stands as one of the most highly-regarded and influential stealth games of the 1990s, but these days PC gaming technology has moved on so far that it can be tricky to even get the original Thief game running on the latest Windows OS. The Thief franchise finally arrived on console with Thief: Deadly Shadows, which was released on both PC and Xbox in 2004, and Eidos Montreal’s upcoming reboot - titled simply Thief - is expanding even further with releases on both the PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and the Xbox One....

The tower simulation game Tiny Tower has been making a ton of headlines in recent weeks, but for all the wrong reasons. Social software games giant Zynga released a game nearly identical to Tiny Tower called Dream Heights and has since, been taking heat for allegedy copying NimbleBit’s hit indie game. To put things in perspective, NimbleBit has 3 employees and Zynga has over 2,700. Understandably then, loyal fans of Tiny Tower - the 2011 iPhone game of the year - are unimpressed at Zynga’s actions (so is at least one former Zynga employee)....

On August 19, 2021, legendary Japanese actor Sonny Chiba succumbed to complications from Covid-19. He was 82. If you don’t know Chiba, he was a pioneering martial arts movie stars and a genuine master of the martial arts. Long before Bruce Lee, there was Sonny Chiba. Chiba was his stage name. He was born as Sadaho Maeda and adopted “Chiba” after Japan’s Chiba prefecture where he grew up. His Japanese stage name was Shinichi Chiba, but he was known internationally as Sonny....

Full disclosure: my favorite death in Brad Pitt’s World War Z is when the young, idealistic doctor, teamed up with Pitt’s character to find the cause/cure of the zombie plague, manages to slip, fall, and discharge his handgun, blowing his own brains out. God, it was really, really, awesome. Of course, it might have been more awesome if he had tripped on an actual zombie. Titillating cinematic irony aside, zombies have been responsible for some of the most gruesomely awesome deaths in all of cinema....

Cyberpunk 2077 kind of came stumbling out of the gate, sad as it is to say. There is a great game under all the glitches, bugs, and controversy, but one cannot be blamed for not seeing past these, especially if they are playing on the base PS4 or Xbox One, an arguably broken experience. Hopefully, patches will come and remedy all these issues in the future, and we’re crossing our fingers for the inferior console versions to receive upgrades as well....

The pinball machine was first invented back in 1871 and has gone through booms and busts over the years as it dips in and out of popularity. The ’90s were one period in time where this game experienced a surge of buyers, as gamers began to appreciate this arcade classic once again. There were over 480 different pinball machines manufactured since the start of this decade, but only some topped the popularity charts....

There may be no way to write a list like this without contention because we are all creatures built from experiences; we are all of different ages and backgrounds, and we like things for different reasons. Therefore, it goes without saying that this is one gamer/writer’s list of preferences, but it is built out of love and adoration for a character that has done more to impact the gaming industry than arguably any other....
