Back in May, Ubisoft announced the formation of their own movie prodution house, Ubisoft Motion Pictures. With video games slated to become the next big Hollywood movie genre for tentpole films, this was no surprise, especially when looking at Ubisoft’s array of intellectual properties. Shortly thereafter, they confirmed the studio and plans to adapt the Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell franchises into feature films. Now that the Back to Karkand map pack for Battlefield 3 is available to everyone, fans are rejoicing to revisit some of their favorite maps from Battlefield 2. Unfortunately, two weapons are not acting properly for PlayStation 3 users. Namely, the QBU-88 sniper rifle and the MG36 LMG. DICE has identified the problems and is working on a fix right now. After several decades of conquering the Earth, developer Firaxis Games is taking Civilization players to uncharted territories. They are taking them to space. At their PAX East 2014 panel, Firaxis officially unveiled Civilization: Beyond Earth, the latest entry in the long-running simulation franchise. They gave panel attendees a closer look at the game in the form of a pre-rendered cinematic and then detailed how this game will set itself apart from past Civ games....

Karen Traviss is well-known for her New York Times best-selling Star Wars novels and original series, but she has also written several tie-ins to the Gears of War universe, starting with the 2008 prequel novel Gears of War: Aspho Fields. With a strong writing background, it shouldn’t surprise that she was approached by Epic Games last year to write Gears of War 3. The Gears series is known for a doing many things very well: cover mechanics, detailed graphics, visceral combat, epic moments, and (now) overpriced console DLC....

Ultimately, Guitar Hero’s success wasn’t due to its frenetic gameplay or its expertly curated track list; in the end, everything really comes down to that little plastic guitar. Sure, Harmonix (and later, Neversoft) had a strong gameplay foundation to build on thanks to Amplitude, which provided the basis for Guitar Hero’s core beat-matching mechanic, but it was the controller that caught the mainstream’s attention. It doesn’t matter if the game is running on Easy or Expert difficulty; with that peripheral, it’s easy to sell the illusion that players are actually rock stars performing in front of thousands of fans....

As the full roster for Injustice: Gods Among Us is being revealed piece by piece, gamers are slowly nearing the big picture. It’s been about seven months since Injustice was revealed, and since then we’ve been introduced to more than a dozen different heroes and villains that will be joining the fold, with another one announced earlier today. Fans of Mass Effect 3, BioWare’s last adventure starring Commander Shepard can mark their calendars, with an official release date of August 28 has been confirmed. One of the biggest talking points following Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars franchise was the decision to remove expanded universe content like video games, novels and comic books from the series’ canon. Since then, the company has set about re-establishing the universe to its own specifications — but where does that leave Star Wars: Battlefront? A Star Wars story told in a book has a definitive set of plot points that can be inserted into the existing canon; the open-ended nature of a video game like Battlefront makes it more difficult to establish whether or not it conforms to the lore of the overarching series....

With the story focused on two teenage girls, players of The Last of Us: Left Behind, the upcoming DLC for one of last year’s most critically-acclaimed games, may find themselves feeling a little more vulnerable than they were in Joel’s shoes. Luckily, a new spin on the combat will offer the opportunity to play things smart. In a video interview with the cast and creators of “Left Behind,” lead game designer Jacob Minkoff explains that the DLC will have more focus on exploration than on combat, but when fights do come along they will be “extremely challenging....

The Last of Us was undoubtedly the star of Sony’s E3 showing (sorry Wonderbook), and PlayStation 3 owners are definitely itching to play Naughty Dog’s latest. Unfortunately, Sony has confirmed the game won’t ship until 2013. Sony’s president of WorldWide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, confirmed that The Last of Us won’t be releasing this year. Back in December, Naughty Dog stated the game has been in development for the past two years....

Super Mario Maker launched for the Wii U in 2015! It seems like it was more recent of a release, right? So much so that it seemed obvious, what with all the Wii U ports to the Switch, that it would eventually make it on there. For real, even Sean’s endings show him either lose repeatedly to Ryu or reveal that him winning the game’s tournament was just a dream he experienced while knocked after the first round....
