Sony launched the original PlayStation on December 3, 1994. The console went on to sell over 100 million units. The James Bond franchise is the gold standard for long-running film series. When a series deals with demon hunters and storylines surrounding end-of-the-world scenarios, one would think making sense is the least of anyone’s concerns. Still, Devil May Cry has established its own in-universe logic which has been adhered to at enough points to consider it as the basis of understanding what’s going on in the story. That doesn’t mean the series has actually stuck to this logic, as there have been many plot points and instances that have either clashed with the logic or are nonsensical no matter how one looks at them....

Nintendo has done an exceptional job at creating characters and developing franchises that have gone on to become landmarks of the video game industry. Pikmin is an inventive take on the real-time strategy genre and while many people missed Pikmin 3 on the Wii U, the new Pikmin 3 Deluxe for the Switch allows gamers to right that wrong....

The NES helped to save gaming as we know it and it’s definitely partially responsible for starting the gaming boom of the 90s. Once developers realized that the NES was here to stay and that an abundance of money was simply floating through the air around the iconic system, they began to crank out games as quickly as possible. The “boom” would, unfortunately, see some lower-quality productions throughout the years and there were some developers that were definitely more imaginative than others....

It felt like this day would never come, but Aliens: Colonial Marines is just hours away from being released. The new chapter in the Alien series from Gearbox Software gives players the chance to jump into the boots of a space marine, and solve the mystery of the USS Sulaco and LV-426 (around which the plot of Aliens was based) for good. Previous trailers showed that players - as Cpl. Christopher Winter - will get to board the USS Sulaco, with everything spiraling out of control from there....

All week long, Electronic Arts and DICE and celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their flagship shooter franchise, Battlefield. The decade has hosted many releases in the series, beginning with the World War II themed Battlefield 1942, its followup, Battlefield: Vietnam, and a variety of modern day sequels designed for the PC and consoles. From Battlefield 2, the currently hot (and still growing) Battlefield 3 and the upcoming Battlefield 4 (beta begins next year), the core franchise is steamrolling ahead thanks to DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine, while fans eagerly await a sequel to the two Bad Company games....

It’s been five years since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare changed the face of gaming, and the series’ success still hasn’t let up. Black Ops 2 was released to not only critical praise, but stronger sales than any of its predecessors. Activision confirmed today that in its first twenty four hours, Black Ops 2 was able to rake in more than $500 million dollars in revenue. This smashes the record set by Modern Warfare 3, which was able to bring in 775 million in just five days....

Dungeon Siege 3, the newest sequel spawned from Gas Powered Games’ original Dungeon Siege title, returns PC gamers to the world of Aranna as well as its political conflicts - and finally brings console gamers along for the ride. This installment, however, was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Square Enix, who acquired ownership of the series. Does this version live up to the lineage of the franchise or does it resemble the unfortunate movie spin-off In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale?...

For obvious PR reasons, it’s rare to hear game developers working on major franchises to speak candidly about the flaws of previous titles in the series, especially if they only came out a couple of years ago. Developers will often discuss improvements to come in future titles, but these aren’t often voiced alongside blunt acknowledgements of the faults that needed to be fixed. With that in mind, Game Informer’s new gameplay video and interview with Far Cry 4’s narrative director Mark Thompson is not only incredibly refreshing, but also fascinating as an insight into how game developers view their past works critically....

Recently, Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard released new footage from the film during the IGN Fan Fest. The 40-second teaser offers fans a sneak peek of the first meeting between the two monsters, and it isn’t the most social meeting.
