The trend for remastering old games is in full swing right now, but Nintendo fans are pining for a remake which has not yet been announced. Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door is the much-loved 2004 sequel to Paper Mario, yet it’s one of the few Nintendo games which has not yet seen a remaster or digital release of some sort. Now Twitter is trying to change that with the #remasterthousandyeardoor campaign.

One of the most vocal campaigners is a YouTuber by the name of Arlo. He’s put a huge amount of time and effort into his mission to bring the beloved role-playing game to the Switch. He begins with a video in which he discusses the idea of a remaster and if it would be possible.

In the video, Arlo refers not only to his own feelings about the franchise, but also to an old interview with Risa Tabata - a developer on Paper Mario: Color Splash. When asked about the possibility of a Thousand Year Door Remaster, she apparently said that Nintendo would consider it if fans were vocal enough.

Now Arlo is rallying fans to the cause, even creating a petition, which has currently gathered over 16,000 signatures.

Arlo’s campaign began when he saw a post from fellow YouTuber Chuggaaconroy, reminiscing about the 15 year anniversary of the game.

The events have combined to create an influx of Tweets under #RemasterThousandYearDoor and fans are sharing how much the game means to them.

Twitter user Hamster Girl declares it a firm favorite in the entire Mario franchise.

Meanwhile Bill Borbe says he would “100% buy” the title, a sentiment echoed by many others.

Love for the game has even convinced one user, who calls themselves A BillionBees, to actually use Twitter to get behind the cause.

Naturally, where there is a campaign, there are also GIFs and memes. User Ferris Wheel has commemorated the death of the series, which they attribute to the Color Splash announcement, with this creative effort.

There are also photos of fans’ copies of the original Gamecube game, as well as a large number of pleas and mockups of a remaster for the Switch, including this from Pescatarian Papi, which sums up the thoughts of Paper Mario fans perfectly.

The campaign was started a few days ago, and is beginning to gather momentum - with tweets currently being almost continually added to the hashtag. It remains to be seen if Nintendo will listen, but fans are certainly being more vocal than ever. Here’s hoping we can see Vivian and Doopliss again sooner rather than later!
