Naughty Dog’s upcoming DLC The Last of Us: Left Behind is a prequel to the main game and a sequel to the comic book miniseries The Last of Us: American Dreams, which covers the events leading up to Ellie’s discovery that she is immune to the cordyceps fungus. As a follow-up to one of 2013’s most popular choices for Game of the Year, there’s been a great deal of anticipation for “Left Behind” and its promised expansion of Ellie’s backstory.
A new trailer/extended clip from “Left Behind” highlights the close friendship between Ellie and Riley Abel, a fellow teen who escapes the quarantine zone and joins up with the rebel group, the Fireflies, with whom Ellie is staying at the beginning of The Last of Us. The scene shown is presumably from the beginning of the DLC, when Riley sneaks into Ellie’s room and convinces her to go on a nighttime jaunt outside of the compound.
Naughty Dog’s exclusives are a strong selling point for Sony consoles, and one of the major attractions for the new PS4 is another exclusive: Sucker Punch’s inFAMOUS: Second Son. That’s not the only connection between the two games: inFAMOUS: Second Son’s new protagonist Delsin Rowe is voiced and mo-capped by Troy Baker, the actor who played Joel in The Last of Us, and the trailers so far have boasted some very impressive visuals.
The new accolades trailer for inFamous: Second Son doesn’t feature much in the way of new footage, but the praise from critics who previewed the game last year will help keep the hype train chugging just as much as the demonstration of Delsin’s powers, which utilize a range of elements including smoke, fire and neon. It’s particularly gratifying to see the game described as having an “overwhelming sense of power and freedom,” since one drawback of the previous inFAMOUS games was that Cole could at times feel somewhat underpowered for a superhero/villain.
These are two of the strongest titles in the upcoming Sony exclusive roster and we can’t wait to play both of them. Tell us in the comments what you’re hoping to see in The Last of Us: Left Behind and inFAMOUS: Second Son.
The Last of Us: Left Behind will be available on PS3 in early 2014, and inFAMOUS: Second Son releases March 21, 2014 for the PS4.
