Hold on to your quarters, because one of the most famous side-scrolling arcade games of all-time, The Simpsons Arcade Game, may find its way into the homes of every gamer who has access to Xbox Live Arcade or the PlayStation Network.
The 90’s were host to a lot of amazing side-scrolling ‘beat ’em up’ games, back when gamers left their homes to socialize with other players at their local arcades since Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network didn’t exist yet. Alien Vs. Predator, Captain America and the Avengers, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were all quite exquisite pieces of work, but few stood out as more fun as The Simpsons Arcade Game.
It’s been almost a year now since X-Men, a top arcade side-scroller comparable to The Simpsons became available for XBLA and PSN. If any readers are a fan of the Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World side-scroller, then it would definitely be worth your while to keep an eye out for The Simpsons.
There is no set release or confirmation whether this game will in fact be available for the XBLA or PSN, but GamePro has recently spotted The Simpsons Arcade Game listed on the Australian Classification Board, which is strong evidence that the game could be coming to digital platforms sometime soon.
Based on the longest-running prime-time TV series of all time, The Simpsons game follows Bart, Lisa, Marge and Homer in a desperate search to find Maggie. With eight different stages and differing fighting styles, the game managed to do quite a lot with with a somewhat basic set of inputs. Given its basic brawler foundations, it may come as a surprise to know that the game was definitely not easy. So considering the thousands of gamers out there who spent week after week’s allowance in quarters never to beat the game in its entirety, a digital release may be a dream come true.
