UPDATE: Capcom has clarified that Nemesis will not be able to invade safe rooms after all. The report from the Official Xbox Magazine had an error in it due to mistaking the room that Nemesis broke into as a safe room instead. Essentially, safe rooms will still serve their purpose and players will be able to rest easy and save their progress without any issues.
ORIGINAL: As if players weren’t terrified enough of Mr. X from Resident Evil 2, Capcom has decided to take things to a whole new level by making Resident Evil 3’s Nemesis far more intimidating and scary by making him break the franchise’s rules. Multiple reports have stated that the grisly creature will be able to enter safe rooms and cause players more discomfort as a result.
The information about Nemesis’ new ability comes from the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine (which was then posted on the ResetEra website) that talks about some of the game’s details, changes, features, and a lot more. In it, the biggest takeaway is how Nemesis was reworked to fit into the remake, and essentially how much of a bigger threat he will be when the full game comes out.
According to the magazine, the game’s developers used Mr. X to gather feedback on Nemesis and implement that feedback based on what players said and what they felt. Basically, the goal was to make Nemesis a lot more challenging and threatening than Mr. X, and as a result from all that, the developers allowed Nemesis to chase players into safe rooms - a first ever in any Resident Evil game.
In order to balance the new feature and make gameplay more fair for the fans, the magazine revealed that Nemesis will only walk into a safe room if he is chasing the player. In other words, as long as the creature is chasing the player, he can go to the safest location in the game unless the player manages to escape from Nemesis before entering a safe room. Nonetheless, such ability is to not be taken lightly and needs to be dealt with in a careful way.
Aside from being able to pursue players to safe rooms, Nemesis’ AI was reworked to not constantly chase them. According to ResetEra, if Nemesis constantly chases his target, “that’d get tiring fast.” As a result, the AI has been reworked to give players some breathing room and give them a chance to recollect their thoughts and plan their next strategy.
Resident Evil 3 Remake will release on April 3, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC and will be bundled with Resident Evil Resistance - a 1 vs 4 multiplayer experience.
